The Internet is overloaded with sites offering the ‘get rich quick’ option, hoping to relieve you of some hard earned cash, promising all but delivering nothing.

A few years ago, fed up of the 9 to 5 existence and wanting a change in lifestyle, I began to look with interest at the various web sites offering ‘to change my life forever’. There were certainly some excellent offers around. I could...

Sounds too good to be true?. Well, they are - most involve re-selling e-books or downloadable files to other people looking for a better future. You may make a few sales, but the market soon dries up.
Then there are the sites offering to make you an ‘e-bay millionaire’ usually by scouring the auction site for cheap or badly listed items and then re-listing them for some incredible profit. While I’m sure that some people may make a killing on one or two items in an online auction, could this realistically happen day after day, month after month, year after year?. And if it were true that you could do this and make a lot of money, would you not keep the secret to yourself so all the money would come your way?. Or perhaps the people divulging this information make far more money by selling it to people seeking a better life!.
Another topic that eventually caught my eye while browsing the Net was the abundance of e-book creation software.
My passion is playing golf, a sport that I had been interested for a long, long time. Over the years I had visited many Professionals for lessons, bought books, videos, magazines etc. and built up quite a bit of knowledge about the sport. An idea that I had was to write an e-book about the game of golf and sell this to other enthusiasts as a downloadable file via a dedicated web site.
The e-book would offer information on golf related topics and contain a series of lessons to assist golfers trying to reduce their scores. I purchased e-book creation software and began working on the idea, building up about a dozen pages to start with.
At the same time I registered a domain name, ordered a package from a web hosting company, and set about constructing the site. This was perhaps a little bit adventurous from someone whose knowledge of building web sites was practically nil. However I concluded that I could buy a decent book and perhaps get the web hosting company to help me on my way.
I managed to start building a web page and, after a while, figured how to upload it to my web site.

Yes, I know, it’s not exactly the best designed Web page that you have ever seen!.
By this stage I had been thinking of all the things that I needed to consider about building this web site, such as how to get listed on the search engines, building traffic, taking payments online, setting up the downloadable e-book, and encrypting it so that it could not be copied. Web hosting companies are very good at web hosting but if you need more expertise then you have to pay for it. At that time I could not justify spending a lot of money on something that might not sell. Eventually, as you can see from the web site, my interest faltered and the project went ‘on hold’.
Six months later in March 2006, I came across a publication that would change my whole philosophy of marketing via the Internet. A friend sent me a link to an e-book, called Make Your Site Sell, produced by Sitesell, which sounded like the perfect material to help me get my web site up and running. This book was nothing like I expected to see. Instead of a few tips about setting up web pages to attract buyers or maybe an explanation of the correct layout to use, the book explains, in great detail how to develop a product, build a site that sells and how to attract targeted traffic to the site. Another link pointed me to a Quick Tour slide show which explained how someone with a particular skill, hobby or passion could convert that into a Web site, enabling the content to attracts interested visitors, who in turn could generate profits from several different sources.
Ideas began entering my head about the possibility of taking my passion for golf and using all the information that I had, converting it to a golf related web site and exploring the profit making opportunities. After spending a few days exploring the Sitesell web site. I took the plunge and purchased the Site Build It package.The amount of information available with this package is truly outstanding.
An Action Guide is provided to help you to research and build your desired web site. Within a week I had developed my strategy, decided on a domain name and built my home page. The web site went live in early April 2006. Since then I have been following the Action Guide and slowly building content pages. The process of building the web site is pretty simple (even I have managed to do it!!) and support is excellent via FAQ’s or online forums.
Site Build It offers advice on the ways of making money from the site and I now have two income streams, Google Adsense and Affiliate Programs incorporated in to the site.

I think you’ll agree that this looks rather different from my first attempt six months earlier. This whole site has been produced by myself, using the tools and building blocks from within the Site Build It package.
And the best part of it is that I am making money from this web site.
Although not enough yet to give up my day job, my income is steadily increasing.
